About me
My title is Assistant Managing Editor, but it's hardly the only job I've had at the OC Register. As a reporter I wrote for our business section and, later, for our features section, then known as Accent. This led to a couple thousand stories about everything from the surf industry and real estate to special investigations about Sept. 11 and local toll road construction and the death penalty.
As an editor I've overseen teams in charge of investigations, features and our front page.
Lately, as the industry has shrunk -- meaning fewer reporters in newsrooms around the country -- I've switched roles yet again, becoming a hybrid writer and editor. This has meant stories about pretty much anything I want, including the effects of the pandemic, the aging population and human trafficking.
I live in Irvine with my wife, mother-in-law and a rotating cast of adult children and their significant others.
